Frances Ha (2012)

“It’s that thing when you’re with someone, and you love them and they know it, and they love you and you know it… but it’s a party… and you’re both talking to other people, and you’re laughing and shining… and you look across the room and catch each other’s eyes… but – but not because you’re possessive, or it’s precisely sexual… but because… that is your person in this life.”

Frances Halladay, Frances Ha

Set in New York, this is a story of a woman, Frances Halladay, in her 20s who has just entered adulthood and has absolutely no idea what to do with her life. Frances tries to make it in the real world with just her dreams and the help of her best friend.

What did I like?

Directed by Noah Baumbach, this black and white movie is so aesthetic and pretty and perfectly shot. The main character is played by Greta Gerwig who has proven to be an amazing actress, as well as a renowned director. Adam Driver as the supporting actor also gave a delightful performance.

I loved the spontaneity of Frances. She made a lot of decisions based purely on her heart’s desires and even though most of them were poor, she never lost hope.

Another aspect of this film was the strong friendship between the two main characters of this film, Frances and her best friend, Sophie. This scene depicted how powerful and unbreakable their bond was.

I felt that the ending scene(see above) was perfect and it summed up the whole quirky character of Frances in one single shot.

Conclusion?

This one will make you laugh, cry and dream.
