Amélie (2001)

“Times are hard for dreamers.”

The Narrator, Amélie

A young girl, Amélie, wishes to bring happiness in the world by helping those around her. On this selfless journey, she finds love for herself.

What did I like?

Amélie is one of the most widely known French movies. And for a good reason. This movie is about the dreamers, and about those people who find happiness in the smallest of things.

I loved the titular character of Amélie, which was played the the renowned actress Audrey Tautou. She was so quirky, but in the sweetest way possible. I really liked how they showed the unique eccentricities of each character. Whether it was picking up random pebbles from the street, dipping fingers in a sack full of grains or collecting torn photos of strangers from photo booths. There was so much uniqueness in this film. I also really liked the heart warming narration done by André Dussollier.

The cinematography of the film was very aesthetic. The colour palette consists of shades of green and red. The colour scheme gave me a very warming feeling while watching the film.

A still from Amélie (2001)

As an introvert, I could also relate to the character of Amélie. She is portrayed as a young girl, who is lonely but is also afraid to take a bold step. Hence, she finds her pleasure in the happiness of others.

Conclusion?

This one’s all about being happy and making others happy. So if you’re ever in the mood for a feel-good film, you know what to watch.
