What did I not like?
There are a lot of parallel storylines in this movie which are narrated in a non-linear manner. The amount of content this movie had overwhelmed me sometimes.
There are a lot of graphic scenes in this film which might not be suitable for everyone. I felt the need to take a breather after every vivid scene.
The characters are immense and it takes some time getting used to all of them.
What did I like?
This movie had a great cast, including Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, Bill Skarsgård, Eliza Scanlen and many others. The acting was perfect. One memorable role was that of Pattinson’s, who played a dirty priest who seduced young girls into sleeping with him.
The narrator of the film, Donald Ray Pollock, is also the writer of the book of the same name. I absolutely loved the way he narrated the scenes and it left me gasping throughout the length of the film.
The many stories were well connected with each other which gave a better viewing experience overall.
Conclusion?
It was a good one-time watch but I felt that if this same plot was a TV show, it would have definitely worked better.
